If you’re offered tea or coffee in a Russian home, you may see a can of sgushyonka, or sweetened condensed milk, on the table. This versatile sweetener can be stirred into a hot drink, slathered onto a stack of bliny, or savored by the spoonful. It became particularly popular in the USSR as a key ingredient in many beloved Soviet desserts.
This boiled sweetened condensed milk is the equivalent of the Russian dulce de leche. We use it for our Medovik cake at Nevski.
